The screen went to low resolution (driver uninstalled) and then went back to normal res. A strange thing happened in that when NVidia GeForce Experience was uninstalling the old driver (clean installation) it appeared to stop working (the progress bar remained empty) and the CPU was working flat out, memory was 50% utilised but not much HDD activity. Perhaps you could add this minor detail to your instructions for future use. Sorry it took so long to respond, I didn't realise at first that I need to copy the minidump file before I do the system restore so the 2nd time around I saved it onto a USB stick whilst still in safe mode.
